On April 9, the second Wuhan Marathon triggered in the rain. It attracted more than 120,000 people to register and over 20,000 runners from home and abroad were finalized for this event.
The participants mainly hailed from the U.S., France, the U.K., Australia and other 25 countries as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions, including 17 guest athletes from Ethiopia, Ukraine, Kenya, Morocco, Uganda and Eritrea.
This year’s marathon started from the Yanjiang Avenue of Hankow District. Boudad Zakaria from Morocco and Egigayehu Asnakech Mengistu from Ethiopia won the men's and women’s full marathon championships, respectively.
Organized by Chinese Athletic Association, Hubei Sport Bureau and Wuhan Municipal People's Government, Wuhan Marathon sets full marathon, half marathon and a 13-kilometer health run. As a newborn marathon event, it has been concerned increasingly for its unique course. It is expected that Wuhan Marathon will join in the China Marathon Majors in 2017.
